The Division of Gastroenterology in the Department of Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Associate or Full Professor position in the non-tenure academic clinician track. Expertise is required in the specific area of the clinical, regulatory and administrative responsibilities surrounding living donation for liver transplant. Applicants must have an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. or equivalent degree. Candidates should be board certified in Gastroenterology and Hepatology, and in Transplant Hepatology. Rank will commensurate with experience.
Teaching responsibilities may include outpatient precepting of transplant hepatology fellows and internal medicine residents in primary hepatology clinics (variable frequency) as well as inpatient teaching service attending and/or consult service that includes direct supervision of transplant hepatology fellows, gastroenterology/hepatology fellows, internal medicine residents, interns and medical students. The academic clinician track requires 100 credits per year of active and high quality teaching.
Clinical responsibilities may include 6 day clinical sessions per week including 2 sessions (1 day) outpatient endoscopy and 1-2 sessions dedicated to evaluation of potential living donor candidates and/or potential liver transplant recipients. Up to 12 weeks inpatient teaching service attending and/or consult service may be required.
The Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology is a vibrant, highly interactive, and collaborative academic and clinical environment with about 76 faculty, 26 fellows, and more than 200 staff. The Division provides clinical care in programs dedicated to General Gastroenterology, IBD, Neurogastroenterology, Esophagus, Advanced Therapeutics, Hepatology, GI Genetics, Nutrition/small bowel and Women's GI Health.
The Medical Director of Living Donor Liver Transplantation will specifically oversee the operational, administrative and clinical responsibilities related to Living Donor Liver Transplant with goals of patient safety, efficiency and capacity maximization. The Medical Director will participate in all general as well as living donor-specific transplant hepatology-related clinical and administrative meetings. There will be an expectation of the ability of the selected candidate to provide management and/or leadership in the role. Rank will be commensurate with experience.
